Presentation

The evolution of society has created a pressing demand for autonomy on the part of  local government coupled with the forms of regional and world integration needed to  govern global processes, thus placing federalism at the centre of interest of scholars (jurists, economists, political scientists, historians) and of the political class. The Centre for Studies on Federalism is a scientific institution that carries out activities of interdisciplinary research, documentation, information regarding domestic and supra-national federalism and developments in the area of regional and continental integration – first and foremost the European Union – and problems related to the world order and to the process of democratisation of the international system.

CSF’s principal areas of activity are:

Scientific Research
Research focuses on the historical, philosophical, economic and juridical aspects of federalism without neglecting other related subjects (nationalism, Europeanism, global interdependence, etc.). The Centre finances external research and awards fellowships to young researchers. Its research activities are publicised in conferences and seminars in line with the Centre’s objective of making specific contributions to the current debate on the transformations of contemporary society towards forms of federalism on both a national and international level.

Documentation and Information
The Centre boasts a specialist library and newspaper archive containing roughly 12,000 volumes, an extensive collection of degree and doctoral theses and an historical archive of more than five hundred professional journals. In addition, the current issues of more than sixty periodicals are available for consultation. The Centre publishes three editorial series, two of monographic research and one of shorter papers and essays.
